Red River

(2023)

Pigment print on Tirage Baryté (Ed. of 5)

60cm x 40cm

Red River is a manipulated photograph of the river Meriç, taken from the Turkish side looking toward Greece. I was in Turkey on a six-month residency, spending time in the country’s north-west while working on two films: Reflections from Meriç and End of Season.

In both films, locals speak about the river that separates Turkey from Greece and the danger it holds. Many refugees attempt to cross it on their way to Europe. Some disappear in the current — drowning, carried downstream, or never found.

Red River reflects that reality.
